25 July 2022Spylaw Park - West Mill Road Path Closure - Info from CEC

"I write to inform you the Water of Leith Walkway between Spylaw Park and West Mill Road will be closed from Monday 1st August until Wednesday 10th August while improvement works are undertaken.

Works include path resurfacing to provide an improved surface.  The surface material requires a week to set before we can allow access across it.  The closure is unfortunate, and we apologise for the inconvenience; however, to ensure the surface has time to bind we do request the public respect the closure and use an alternative route.

The installation of ducting will also be undertaken and this will allow lighting to be installed at a later date.

For information, advance signage was installed on site today and further closure signage and maps showing suggested alternative routes will be in place for the duration of the closure."

Update received from Edinburgh Council on the work :

As you are aware we are currently working with our partners, Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust, to undertake path improvement works on the Water of Leith Walkway between Lanark Road and Balerno.  These works are funded by Sustrans (using Scot Gov Active Travel funding).  The new surface is ULTITREC and is recommended by Sustrans, as well as other national organisations such as Paths for All, the charity who champion everyday walking.  ULTITREC recycled pathway material meets all relevant environmental and performance standards including being produced under the WRAP Protocol for Recycled Aggregates.  Unfortunately, the new path surface between Lanark Road and Colinton Tunnel has not bound correctly, meaning the surface is particularly loose, leading to difficulties for cyclists, pushchairs and wheelchairs.  We are aware of these issues and would like to assure everyone that we are investigating the cause of this (which may be due to the quality of material from our supplier) and potential solutions.  We appreciate the inconvenience caused however, in the meantime we are asking that the public do not put themselves at risk and use an alternative route.

08 March 202220 Minute Neighbourhoods

The City of Edinburgh Council has developed a strategy to find ways for Edinburgh residents to meet their daily needs within 20 minutes of their homes by walking, using public transport, wheeling or cycling.

Full information is on the CEC website - https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/20minuteneighbourhoods

At the end of the above, you will see a list of 20 proposed neighbourhoods but Craiglockhart is not one of them. We feel that unless we have a plan and shout loudly enough with Community backing, then we will not be considered.
