'Health & Well-Being' Showcase Event
A very interesting and informative day was had at our Health & Well-Being event which we held on Saturday 5th July in the the halls of Craiglockhart Parish Church.
There was a very good turnout from local residents and also quite a few people from other areas of Edinburgh.
The event was aimed at the services and support available to the community to help them live a fulfilled and healthier life.
Taster sessions in Meditation (led by the Monks of the Dhammapadipa Temple), Tai Chi (led by Li Wen from the Edinburgh Tai Chi) and Yoga (led by Survi) were held throught the day.
Nuffield provided some basic health checks and offered fitness advice as well as some free day passes.
Balanced Physiotherapy, who recently opened a studio at Happy Valley, offered some specialist advice from a trained physiotherapist and a podiatrist.
Social Care from Edinburgh City Council provided lots of information on the services they provide while Ageing Well provided information on the many types of activities they cover and how people can get involved as a participant or as a volunteer.
U3A (University of the 3rd Age) covered the wide range of activities their members organise while Polwarth Church were also represented and handed out many leaflets on activities which are held in their grounds and buildings.
A common theme across all the groups and organisations involved was the need for, and benefit from, social interaction in communities regardless of how the interaction takes place.
In addition, ward Councillors Christopher Cowdy, David Key and the newly elected Councillor Kevin McKay together with Community Councillors Eleanor Young, Hilda Henderson, Paul Pia and Neena Agarwal were on hand to meet with local residents.
Tasty snacks and refreshments were provided courtesy of NKS who also had a stall with information and recipes for using up left over food.
