30/03/2020 - Consultant advised that they had no further information on the future of the site that had been approved by the Reporter under the Appeal system on 16 October 2020

23/01/2020 - “Thistle are still considering their options for the site so there is no definitive start date at this time.”

16/10/2019 - Reporter confirmed that the conditions had been satisfied and granted Planning Permission

17/05/2019 - Reporter gave a “Minded to Grant Decision giving Applicant 12 weeks to make various conditions (submissions).

26/03/2019 - Blue Goose Planning Application has gone to Appeal 

23/01/2019 - The application was rejected CEC by 9 votes to 2 on the grounds that it was
contrary to policy Env 10 on development in the green belt and policy Hou 6 on affordable housing.
The developer does have a right to appeal this decision to the Scottish Ministers.


16/08/2018 - Extract from CCC Comments on letter objecting to the Planning Application

05/07/2018 - We applied for an extension of the expiry date until 14th August 2018. This was granted by CEC today thereby giving us time to engage with local residents to properly consider the merits and demerits of the design.

29/06/2018 - New application submitted for the demolition of the public house and erection of building comprising residential apartments and associated development. We learnt today that this Planning Application for the 25 flats was initiated on 18th June and responses and comments are due by 17 July. We were never notified of this and are trying to get the development team to make a presentation and answer any questions on this from the local community during July.

25/04/2018 - Public consultation took place at the Water of Leith Centre on new proposal for residential accommodation. Proposal - section 3, Design Evolution, is most important part.   

24/07/2017 - the Blue Goose site is being sold by Rydens and we have been informed that 4 offers have been received. 30 to 40 residential units are likely though no application has yet been made.    

07/12/16 - The CEC Planning Subcommittee has rejected the Planning Application for both the Blue Goose & Westside Motors sites. The vote was 6 against and 5 for. We think it likely that an Appeal will be made. Rejection Notice

Jul 2016 - Revised drawings submitted by developers. The main changes are :
- a tiered approach of buildings towards The Water of Leith
- reduction of numbers of students from 247 to 221
- new path and entrance to the Dell alongside The Water of Leith
Proposed buildings for the West Side Motors site are unchanged

Jun 2016 -  the CEC Planning Committee have instructed the CEC Planning Department to enter negotiations with the applicant with a view to agreeing a reduction in the scale and height of the development

Mar 2016 - The Planning Department has recommended to the Development Sub-Committee that the application be refused

Jan 2016 - end date for comments on the current proposal is 08/01/16. We have collated and submitted the views from the meeting

Dec 2015 - public meeting held to discuss. Linked to proposal to build 100 student flats on site of Westside Motors - this is in the catchment area of Longstone CC
